Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 5/13: Elias Leads Cougars

Minor League free agent signee Ethan Elias was sparkling in Kane County's 3-1 win over Burlington. He surrendered just one hit and one unearned run over 6 innings while walking three and striking out three. Through six games (two starts) Elias has a miniscule 0.76 ERA and has struck out 26 over 23 innings of work.

AAA: Reno 4 El Paso 2. Robbie Ray started and struggled through a 46-pitch 1st inning in which he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks and was promptly removed from the game. Willy Paredes followed with 4 innings of shutout ball and 4 more relievers followed posting 4 more goose eggs as the game went into extra innings. Kevin Munson got the win for pitching the 10th when Danny Dorn (fresh off his demotion back to AAA) hit a 2-run walk-off homer to win the game. Dorn went 3 for 4 with a double and the home run.

AA: Mobile 5 @ Mississippi 8. Braden Shipley got the start and wasn't his best. He allowed 2 runs in the 4th inning and couldn't get out of the 6th without allowing 3 more. He finished with a line of 5 innings pitched with 5 runs allowed (3 earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks with 2 strikeouts. Jimmie Sherfy took the loss when he got tagged for 3 more runs in the 8th that broke a 5-5 tie. Alex Glenn led the offense with 3 hits including a double and a triple, followed closely by Rudy Flores who also had 3 hits including a double and 2 RBI.

A+: Visalia 0 Lancaster 2. The Rawhide lost the rare game when they were shut down on offense with just 5 hits, all singles. The pitching did its part as Blayne Weller allowed 2 runs over 5 innings with 8 strikeouts and the bullpen followed with 4 more zeros. Chuck Taylor had 2 of the 5 hits.

A: Kane County 3 Burlington 1. Ethan Elias was superb allowing just 1 hit and 1 unearned run over 6 innings of work. Cody Geyer pitched the 7th and 8th innings putting up 2 zeros and earning the win. Zac Curtis pitched a perfect 9th with 2 strikeouts for his 4th save. The Cougars were being no-hit through 7 innings until they exploded for 4 hits and 3 runs to steal the win Jeremy Rhoades.
