Chase Anderson's night started badly when he gave up a three-run homer to Justin Morneau in the 1st inning to make it 3-0 in favor of the Rockies. Colorado added on in the 2nd when Corey Dickerson singled home a run, but was thrown out trying for second base to end the inning, which was no consolation since Tyler Matzek, a pitcher type, scored before that, and the score was 4-0.
The Diamondbacks got on the board in the 5th when Ender Inciarte grounded out in a way that allowed Tuffy Gosewisch to score from third base to make it 4-1. Another run was added on an A.J. Pollock infield single on a bang-bang play to first base that was very close and held up under review. It was 4-2 at this point.
Nolan Arenado added a sacrifice fly to make it 5-2 and that was the end of Anderson's night. The Diamondbacks added another in the 6th after Matzek was taken out of the game with a left hamstring cramp from a Tuffy groundout that scored Yasmany Tomas to make it 5-3.
The Diamondbacks got a run in the 8th thanks to a Mark Trumbo leadoff double, he himself was moved over to third on a Tomas groundout to first. With two outs, Tuffy hit a soft grounder to Tulo that should have ended the inning... except for the fact that it rolled under his glove for some reason which allowed Trumbo to score to make it 5-4.
The score held into the 9th.and John Axford came into the game to close for Colorado. Ender Inciarte got a one-out single, A.J. Pollock grounded into a fielder's choice to bring up Paul Goldschmidt with two outs and a runner on, which is where you like him. He got a single which allowed Pollock to get to third, bringing up Mark Trumbo who promptly swung at the first pitch to get a ground out to end the game
