Diamondbacks MiLB Round-up, 4/23: Easy as Yoan, Two, Three

A night of close games for our farm system, with three of the four contests decided by a single run, one going to 12 innings. Unfortunately, Visalia were the day's only victors.

Triple A Reno 7, Las Vegas 8. Poor A.J. Schugel was pounded, facing 24 batters in less than four innings, with more than half reaching base on 12 hits and a walk. The Aces didn't fold after falling 6-1, scoring three in the fourth and three more in the eighth to make a game of it. However, after putting the tying run on third with one out in the ninth, Reno couldn't get it home. 3B Nick Evans doubled, singled and drove in two, while 2B Jamie Romak had a pair of hits and CF Mike Freeman hit his second home-run of the year. Kevin Munson struck out all three batters faced in his 2015 debut.

Double-A Mobile 1 @ Montgomery 2 (12). Yoan Lopez made his third start for the BayBears this evening, and produced his best to date. He pitched seven innings, avoided giving up any home-runs or walks, held the Biscuits to five hits, all singles, with just one run resulting, and eight strikeouts. However, he didn't get the W, as the Mobile offense struggled in the clutch. They had two on with no outs in the third, and men on the corners with one out in the ninth, and failed to score, before the Biscuits walked off on an R.J. Hively wild pitch with two outs in the 12th. CF Mitch Haniger walked, singled and drove in Mobile's only run.

High-A Visalia 3, Stockton 2. A familiar name started for the Ports tonight: former D-back Jarrod Parker. coming back from his second TJ op. He gave up three runs in 3.2 innings including DH Stewart Ijames's fifth homer of the season. Ryan Doran allowed two runs over five innings, but settled down after a homer to the first batter of the game, retiring 14 in a row at one point. The Visalia relief crew were equally as strong, fanning seven Ports batters over four innings, with Keith Hessler the pick of the bunch, striking out a pair in a perfect seventh. 2B Fidel Pena had three hits out of the lead-off spot, but was also caught stealing.

Class A Kane County 1. Clinton 7. C Stryker Trahan is having quite a good week: 3-for-4 today, including his third home-run of the season, and he's 6-for-12 with a pair of HR in the past three games. Trahan is now hitting .205 for the season, which is certainly an improvement on the .094 it was after Monday's contest. Not much else positive here, as Stryker's six bases represented two-thirds of the total for the Cougars offense: LF Josh Elander singled and had the only walk. Starter Markus Solbach started okay, but sagged during a four-run seventh. He was charged with six runs, four earned in 6.1 innings on 11 hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
