Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 4/22: More Shipley

Braden Shipley is having a very good start to his AA season and is bucking to move back ahead of Aaron Blair as the top prospect pitcher still toiling in the minors. he had another fine outing on Wednesday allowing one run on 4 hits over 5 innings and struck out 6. Through his first three starts he has struck out 15 in 16+ innings and is sporting a 1.08 ERA. He's walking a tad too many and hasn't been going especially deep into games, but it's early in the season and no reason to overwork him at this juncture. He's definitely on a path to getting a look in the majors at some point if he keeps this up and the major league rotation develops an opening due to either injury or non-performance.

2 Stars: Braden Shipley, Mobile 5 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K, 1 ER, W (2-0)

AAA: Reno 6 Las Vegas 3. Blake Beavan and Caleb Clay combined to hold Vegas to 3 runs over 6 innings. Three relievers were perfect to finish the game and when the offense came alive with 6 runs that was more than good enough. Danny Worth and Mike Freeman each had 2 hits and an RBI while Peter O'Brien hit his 6th home run.

AA: Mobile 4 @ Montgomery 3. Another good outing for Braden Shipley who allowed one run over 5 innings and the offense did just enough to make him a winner. Socrates Brito had 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI.

A+: Visalia 11@ Modesto 8. Not much good starting pitching in this one as the game was tied at 8-8 after 4 innings. John Omahen got tagged for all 8 runs but then the bullpen was superb with 5 shutout innings and 8 strikeouts. Silvino Bracho got his 3rd save with 2 more strikeouts. The offense cranked out 15 hits with 3 from Daniel Palka including 2 doubles.

A: Kane County 1 Clifton 2. Brad Keller had an outstanding start allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 10 strikeouts over 6 innings. Unfortunately the offense was inept and Keller took the loss. Cody Regis and Jose Queliz each had 2 hits for all the offense.
