Diamondbacks 5, Giants 1

Jeremy Hellickson won his first start as a Diamondback, and Paul Goldschmidt's fourth homer was all the offense we would need.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Jeremy Hellickson started off by taking a page from Rubby De La Rosa, starting double, single, sacrifice fly. However, he escaped further damage with the first of several double-plays. The other difference was, Arizona had a two-run lead by that point, Paul Goldschmidt homering to left after an A.J. Pollock single. The top of the third saw the rest of the productive offense for Arizona: Jordan Pacheco was hit by a pitch from Tim Hudson with the based loaded, and Chris Owings then followed up with a two-run single that made the score 5-1 to the D-backs. Owings and Pollock each had three of our eight hits.

Our starter delivered what was easily his best start in an Arizona uniform, though was hardly dominating, not striking out a batter until the final hitter in the sixth inning. He ended up scattering eight hits and a walk over 6.2 innings, with one walk and a pair of strikeouts. Brad Ziegler got the next four outs, and Addison Reed was brought in for a non-save situation in the ninth, and worked a 1-2-3 inning. As noted, the win gives the Diamondbacks their first road series victory since July. They now come home, with an off-day tomorrow, before a two-game series against the Rangers.

preston.salisbury will be along with the full recap later. Might be a while. :)
