Diamondbacks spring training Gameday Thread, #32: 3/31 vs. Rangers

The last of March, and the line-up is starting to look like the ones we might see in the regular season.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports
Diamondbacks line-up
  1. A.J. Pollock, CF
  2. Chris Owings, 2B
  3. Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
  4. Mark Trumbo, RF
  5. Jake Lamb, 3B
  6. Cody Ross, LF
  7. Mark Thomas, C
  8. Nick Ahmed, SS
  9. Trevor Cahill, P

Well, the top two-thirds anyway, could well be a preview of what's to come on Opening Day, when we face left-hander Madisn Bumgarner, though I imagine Owings will be at short, rather than second. Odd to see Thomas starting today, since he is a non-roster invitee. Gerald Laird, potential back-up catcher to Tuffy Gosewisch, did have an opt-out clause in his contract, but the team appears to have negotiated an extension through the weekend, to decide whether they want to go with him. Not that I'm exactly seeing many other potential candidates available, unless the team thinks Jordan Pacheco is credible?

Cahill's last start was a Triple-A game against the Reds, allowing three earned runs over 5.2 innings. Somewhat encouragingly, he had a K:BB ratio of 6:1 in that game. Hopefully it's something on which he can build today, since this will be his last start before the regular season.
