Diamondbacks spring training Gameday Thread, #21: 3/21 vs. Padres

This could be Archie Bradley's last start of spring, with the roster cuts chipping away at the players in camp, and GM Dave Stewart having declared him not ready for the rotation.

Diamondbacks line-up

  2. Chris Owings, SS
  3. Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
  4. David Peralta, LF
  5. Mark Trumbo, RF
  6. Jake Lamb, 3B
  7. Gerald Laird, C
  8. Cliff Pennington, 2B
  9. Archie Bradley, P
+ Randall Delgado, Evan Marshall, Matt Reynolds, Enrique Burgos, Dan Runzler

Here's specifically what Stewart said. "Archie, in my opinion, is not ready. He's made a great advances and he's made great steps, but for Archie to pitch on our major-league staff, he's got to challenge the Collmenters and the De La Rosas and those guys." Hmm. Here are two sets of spring training stats: while taking the small sample-size warnings as read, which pitcher do you think is more ready for the big leagues?
Pitcher A: 7.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 7 K, 3.68 ERA
Pitcher B: 12 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 11 K, 3.75 ERA

No prizes for guessing that A is Bradley, and B is de la Rosa. Just me, but seems Bradley is doing a pretty good job of "challenging" de la Rosa. If Rubby walks that many people in the regular season, he's going to be in real trouble. Perhaps this is is Stewartspeak for "We're holding him down to avoid Super 2 status."
