After being nominated for the MVP award earlier in the day, Paul Goldschmidt was chosen as the 2015 National League Gold Glove winner at 1st base ahead of other fabulous defenders such as Adrian Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants. For Goldy, this is his 2nd career Gold Glove, his first being won in 2013.
A.J Pollock got in on the fun himself, winning his first ever Gold Glove for the CF position. Other nominees included Billy Hamilton of the Cincinnati Reds and Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It's easy as a D-back fan to say they both deserved the award, as we watched them both rob opponents of hits consistently, and seeing them receive national recognition for their defensive efforts is a welcome sight. Paul Goldschmidt led all 1st baseman with 18 DRS and tied for 1st with a fielding percentage of .997, his highest percentage since 2013. A.J Pollock also led all CFers in DRS with 14 and committed only 3 errors total on the year.
Pollock joins a crowded bunch of Gold Glove outfielders in a D-backs uniform, with Steve Finley earning 3 (1999, 2000, 2004) and Gerardo Parra earning 2 (2011, 2013) while Goldschmidt joins Orlando Hudson (2006, 2007) as the only infielders earning Gold Glove awards in a D-back uniform.
Congrats to both of our All-Stars!
