The team will immediately begin the search for a new manager and the remainder of the coaching staff will be determined by the new manager in conjunction with La Russa, Sr. Vice President & GM Dave Stewart and Sr. Vice President, Baseball Operations De Jon Watson.
"Kirk has done an admirable job under difficult circumstances and we are grateful for his professionalism and his dedicated service to the organization over the past eight years," said La Russa. "We feel like it is time for a fresh start and with our recent restructuring in Baseball Operations, we want to get started immediately moving in a new direction. We are also appreciative of Alan Trammell for all that he has done for the D-backs and have great respect for what both men have accomplished in the game of baseball."
Gibson first joined the D-backs as bench coach in 2007 and assumed the interim manager title in July 2010 before being name manager at the end of that season. The team won the NL West Division title in his first year as manager, earning BBWAA NL Manager of the Year honors. During his four-year tenure as manager, the D-backs posted a 353-375 record (.485 winning percentage).
Trammell spent four seasons as Gibson's bench coach and is about to complete his 15th season as a big league manager/coach following a stellar 20-year playing career with the Detroit Tigers.
