Game #152: Diamondbacks vs. Giants

So, still no four-game win streak this season for the Diamondbacks, but perhaps they can still take this series from the Giants, and damage their playoff aspirations.

Madison Bumgarner
LHP, 18-9, 2.91
Andrew Chafin
LHP, 0-0, 0.00
Gregor Blanco - LF Ender Inciarte - LF
Joaquin Arias - 2B Chris Owings - 2B
Buster Posey - 1B A.J. Pollock - CF
Hunter Pence - RF Mark Trumbo - 1B
Pablo Sandoval - 3B Aaron Hill - 3B
Andrew Susac - C Cody Ross - RF
Brandon Crawford - SS Tuffy Gosewisch - C
Juan Perez - CF Nick Ahmed - SS
Madison Bumgarner - LHP Andrew Chafin - LHP

There's some shuffling of the rotation as we go down the stretch. Chafin gets to make his second start of the season today, after pitching five scoreless innings in Cleveland. He'll likely get one or two more starts the rest of the way, with Chase Anderson making his final outing on Friday against Colorado, and Randall Delgado returning to the bullpen, as we go back to a regular five-man rotation. Said Gibson, "It's not because Randall did anything wrong. We were totally comfortable with having him there. We just felt, all things considered, it was the best way to balance our staff from here to the end of the year."

It will still be a tough furrow for the Diamondbacks to plow this afternoon, in an untelevised contest to close out the season series against the Giants. Bumgarner dominated Arizona when we last faced him at Chase in June, and over the three starts against us in total this year, he is 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA. The Giants still have some hope of snatching the NL West, but sitting three games back of the Dodgers with 11 to play, the more likely outcome is they'll face the Pirates or Brewers for the National League wild-card, in a "win or go home" contest. Still, wouldn't mind making them a bit more nervous than they would otherwise be...
