The Diamondbacks simultaneously got good offensive and pitching performances and took down the Giants in game one of the series. Mark Trumbo hit a Grand Slam in the 3rd off of Ryan Vogelsong to give the D'Backs a 4-0 lead. This was Trumbo's first dinger of any sort in 32 games, but it was a well-timed one.
This would be more than enough, but they added two more runs in the 7th on an A.J Pollock triple that scored Cliff Pennington and another RBI by Trumbo that scored Pollock.
Wade Miley did much better than his last start against the Giants, and in his 100th career start, going 7 innings with 1 ER (An RBI groundout by Brandon Crawford in the 7th) and 4 strikeouts.
The other Giants run came off of a Buster Posey single in the 8th off of Evan Marshall to score Joe Panik.
Eury de la Rosa came in for the 9th and held the Giants scoreless.
