In case there was any doubt that Jake Lamb would likely thrive in the friendly confines of the PCL he's off to a torrid start with 4 hits in his first 6 at bats with a double, a homer and a couple of RBI. Last night he went 3 for 5 including his first AAA home run and interestingly started the game at first base. It smells like he may spend a few games at first base in Reno to get acclimated to the position and then perhaps join the big club to play there in Goldy's absence. Just a hunch. I can't come up with any other logical explanation of why he would be playing first base.

AAA: Reno 7 @ El Paso 5. Charles Brewer got the win but he wasn't nearly as good as his last start allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits over 6 innings. But the ofense did its job led by Jake Lamb who went 3 for 5 with a double, a homer and an RBI. Dustin Martin delivered the big blow with a 3-run homer in the 4th inning. Mike Freeman continued his hot hitting going 2 for 2 with a walk, a triple and an RBI. Joe Paterson, Will Harris and Jake Barrett combined for 3 shutout innings to close out the game.

AA: Mobile 0 @ Mississippi 1. A.J. Schugel had a dominating performance with 8 shutout innings on 4 hits, but it wasn't enough as the offense came up with nothing. Jimmie Sherfy took the loss in the 9th when he allowed a 1-out single, 2 stolen bases and a sacrifice fly.

A+: Visalia 4 Modesto 0. Spencer Arroyo was terrific pitching 6 shutout innings on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 6. Johnny Shuttlesworth followed with 3 shutout innings of his own to earn his first save. All the scoring came off a pair of 2-run homers, one by Alex Glenn (20) and the other by Rudy Flores (22).

A: South Bend 2 @ Dayton 4. Brent Jones gave up 4 runs in the first inning and that ended up being the story of the game. Jones was pulled after his rough inning and three relievers combined for 8 shutout innings. But the offense could only come up with 2 runs on 4 hits. Daniel Palka had 2 of those hits including his 21st home run.

A-: Hillsboro 12 @ Spokane 9. The Hops improved to 30-20 behind a 14-hit/12-run offensive outburst that held up in spite of some shaky pitching. Pedro Ruiz hit 2 home runs and drove in 3 and Steve Nyisztor had a homer, a triple and 4 RBI to lead the way. Kevin Cron hit a solo home run, his first since joining Hillsboro, and Taylor Ratliff went 3 for 4 with a double, a stolen base (11) and 3 runs scored. Elvin Soto had 2 hits with a walk and an RBI. Kyle Anderson got the win allowing 5 runs over 5 innings.

R: Missoula 1 Helena 10. The Osprey got rocked for 8 runs in the 6th inning that broke open a 1-1 game. Gabriel Moya and Jency Solis combined for the 8-run outburst. Sergio Alcantara led the inept offense with a pair of singles.

AZL: Dbacks 5 @ Athletics 8. Touki Toussaint started and posted 3 shutout innings on a hit, a walk and 2 wild pitches. He then started the 4th with 2 walks and a hit batter which got him the hook. Luis Castillo entered and allowed all 3 runs to score so Touki finished with 3 runs allowed on 1 hit, 3 walks, 2 wild pitches and a hit batter. They can't hit him, but he's got some control issues he'll need to work on for a while. The offense did get 12 hits but went 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position and came up short. Alvaro Rondon and Raul Santana had identical 3 for 5 lines with a double.
