Diamondbacks 1, Dodgers 3

The Dodgers completed the sweep of this two-game series at Chase Field, as Clayton Kershaw kept the Diamondbacks offense in check. This is my unsurprised face.

The Dodgers did all their damage off Wade Miley in the third inning, on two swings of the bat. First, Matt Kemp doubled over the head of Ender Inciarte in center, after a bunt single and walk, with both runners scoring. Kemp was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a triple, and that proved fortunate, as Miley's kryptonite, Scott Van Slyke then homered later in the inning. Miley wobbled in and out of trouble, just like he did in his previous outing, allowing seven hits and four walks, but striking out six over his six innings - he ends the month of August without a win. Oliver Perez, Evan Marshall and Brad Ziegler combined to work three scoreless in relief.

The offense did have their moments, loading the bases against Kershaw with one out in their half of the third, but Aaron Hill popped out and Mark Trumbo flew out. Arizona did get on the board in the fourth, on an Alfredo Marte double and Jordan Pacheco single. However we then wasted the subsequent man on second, no outs scenario, and worse still, the leadoff triple from Inciarte in the fifth. You can't afford to do that against a pitcher like Kershaw. Inciarte reached base three times, with two hits and a walk, and also stole his 12th base of the year.
