Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 8/17: Owings Starts Rehab

Christian Petersen

Chris Owings finally played in a competitive game after injuring his shoulder a couple of months ago. he played for the AZL Dbacks at shortstop and went 2 for 3. This probably puts him a couple of weeks out from returning to the majors if everything goes without a hitch. Mitch Haniger also began a rehab assignment this weekend. he was the player acquired from the Brewers in the trade of Gerardo Parra. He'll probably be destined for Mobile in the not-too-distant future.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Socrates Brito, Visalia 4 for 5, 2 R, 1 DBL, 2 SB (33)
2 Stars: Andrew Velazquez, South Bend 3 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 SB (46)
1 Star: Charles Brewer, Reno 6 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 ER
0 Stars: Austin Platt, Hillsboro 2/3 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 2 K, 5 ER

AAA: Reno 0 @ New Orleans 1. New Orleans is one location that doesn't fit into the standard PCL MO. It is a hard core pitcher's park. It showed that yesterday as Charles Brewer allowed 1 run over 6 innings but that wasn't good enough as the Aces were shut out by Marlins prospect Andrew Heaney on 2 hits and 9 strikeouts.

AA: Mobile 0 Mississippi 6. Bryan Woodall made his first start since April due to injury and it didn't go well. He allowed 4 runs in 2.2 innings and the offense got shut out on 7 hits. Brandon Drury had 3 hits raising his average to .352 and his OPS to 1.048 in 15 games for Mobile. Gerson Montilla added 2 hits to the lost cause.

A+: Visalia 8 @ Modesto 5. Brandon Sinnery delivered 7 solid innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and the offense was plenty good to make that stand up. Socrates Brito had a big day going 4 for 5 with a double and 2 stolen bases. Rudy Flores was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and an RBI and Raul Navarro also had 3 hits with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base. Alex Glenn hit his 23rd home run, a 2-run shot in the first inning.

A: South Bend 3 Lansing 2. The Silver Hawks eked out a tight game behind some good starting pitching from Sean Furney who went 6 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits. Silvino Bracho picked up his 24th save with a perfect 9th. Andrew Velazquez led the offense with a 3-hit game including a home run leading off the first inning, his 8th of the year. He also stole his 46th base.

A-: Hillsboro 9 @ Eugene 7. The Hops endured a 5.5-hour marathon game that went 17 innings before Eugene ran out of pitchers and had to employ 3rd baseman Joe Epperson in the top of the 17th. The Hops proceeded to score 2 runs on a Taylor Ratliff 2-run homer and the game mercifully came to an end. Eugene started the game scoring 5 runs off of Austin Playy in the first inning who was pulled during the outburst. Eugene scored twice more in the 4th but Hillsboro relievers followed with 13 shutout innings. Mike Cetta got the win pitching the final 3 innings. Jake Mayers and Nate Robertson each had 3 hits and Kevin Cron homered.

R: Missoula 1 Idaho Falls 4. Yefrey Ramirez was so-so allowing 4 runs over 5 innings while the offense was less than so-so. Four hits were all that they could come up, 2 each by Trevor Mitsui and Tyler Baker.

AZL: Dbacks 3 @ Brewers 2. Chris Owings made his first rehab appearance going 2 for 3 as the starting shortstop. Gabriel Perez was very good on the mound allowing 1 run in 5 innings with 7 strikeouts. Marcus Wilson hit his first home run as a professional and Tyler Clark had a pair of hits.
