Game #109: Diamondbacks vs. Pirates

No Gerardo Parra. No Martin Prado. That's a 40% reduction in the number of Venezuelans since the last time we played.

With a left-hander on the mound for the Pirates, the absence of Parra isn't too surprising, but the absence of Prado means Jordan Pacheco gets his first start as a Diamondback - he has seen so little playing time, I don't even have any picture of him in an Arizona uniform! What's a little bit worrying is, Pacheco hasn't seen any playing time in the major leagues at third-base since 2012, when he started 80 games for the Rockies. Even during his recent rehab assignment, he didn't play there. One wonders whether this is just a temporary Band-Aid until Andy Marte shows up. I'm a little surprised this is not the start of the Jake Lamb era, but I still think we'll see that later in the season.

One disturbing thought. The D-backs have had three bobblehead nights this season. They were for Patrick Corbin (missing entire season due to Tommy John), Gerardo Parra (traded) and Martin Prado (traded). Not a great track record. The good news, the next one up is the Zombie Bobblehead, so no matter what happens, it doesn't seem like it'll be much of a threat. After that, we have Bob Brenly on August 30th, but we finish on September 13th with... Paul Goldschmidt. Ulp. Maybe we can replace that with a Ryan Braun once, quick!
