Diamondbacks Lineup

  1. Ender Inciarte - CF
  2. David Peralta - :LF
  3. Paul Goldschmidt - 1B
  4. Miguel Montero - C
  5. Aaron Hill - 2B
  6. Nick Evans - 3B
  7. Roger Kieschnick - RF
  8. Didi Gregorius - SS
  9. Brandon McCarthy - P

The bottom line is "probably not if the hitters doesn't get their act together." The Diamondbacks have scored only 10 runs in their last six games, the worst offensive streak since managing seven over six, during the second half of August 2011. Remarkably, we were still an Addison Reed meltdown from both going 3-3 in those contests and outscoring the opposition over that period. Still, a .546 OPS isn't going to win you many games, and it'd be nice if we didn't have to rely on Brandon McCarthy repeating or bettering his last performance, seven innings of one-run ball in San Diego, to feel we might - just might! - have a chance.

But hang out the bunting then get out the Crayolas and color me Surprised Umber, because there is something called a Nick Evans at third tonight. I'm not sure what this is: I have heard rumors of this fabled creature before, but was led to believe it was never seen outside of its native environment, sitting on the pine boards of the dugout. Seriously. he has been on the roster for three weeks, and I've got five pics of him to use. Striking to realize that only three of the eight position players starting today were even on the roster when the American season began in April. Will they be capable of jump-starting the offense and avoiding a sweep at the hands of the plunderin' Pirates?
