It was a rough game for basically everyone on the Diamondbacks tonight. Trevor Cahill had a bumpy night, especially at the start. In the first two innings, he gave up two runs on five hits, not exactly the harbinger of a solid night from your pitcher. In the end, he did turn it around to a large extent. Over the next four innings, he had perfect innings in the third, fourth, and fifth. He did give up one more run in the sixth to give the Reds' their final total of three on the night. Bo Schultz came in for the seventh, stayed for the eighth, and pitched two perfect innings to finish it out for the Dbacks' pitching staff tonight.
The offense was almost completely futile tonight. The Reds' starter, Mike Leake, went 7 2/3 innings, not allowing a run, and only giving up five hits on the evening. There were four more base runners, however, thanks to two errors in the fourth and Aaron Hill and Miguel Montero both getting hit by pitches. That was it on the night, though. Jonathan Broxton finished out the eighth inning with one pitch, and Arolidis Chapman got the save in the ninth. Final score, Diamondbacks 0, Reds 3. Full recap to follow.
