Game #98: Diamondbacks vs. Cubs

Wade Miley has been excellent this month. Can he keep that up and take the series against the Cubs at Chase Field tonight?

Remember when we used to give a damn about playing the Cubs? I think it was back in the 2007-2008 epoch, when it looked like they might actually break through and reach a World Series for the first time in... Well, y'know. But after getting swept in the Division Series both years, it has been all downhill for the Northsiders. Their last winning season was 2009, and this one is on pace for a third consecutive finish below 70 wins. You may think we've had a rough couple of years, but no team currently in the NL has had fewer victories since the end of the 2011 campaign. They have only 167, which is 36 less than that Diamondbacks.

As a result of last night's win for Arizona, and the loss by Colorado, we overtook both the Rockies and Cubs in the Tankapalooza 2014 standings. We now have the Padres in our sights as they are only one-half of a game ahead of us, so we could occupy the dizzy heights of third in the division by the end of this evening, if we win again, and they go down to the Mets in Petco. The way Wade has pitched in July - a 1.25 ERA in three starts, with a 22-4 K:BB ratio over 21.2 innings - I wouldn't be inclined to bet against at least the first part of that coming true. Here are the updated standings in full.
