Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 7/9: And Another

Christian Petersen

Mark Trumbo delivered another Trumbomb for Reno last night and is probably on the verge of being called back up to the majors. He's played in 7 rehab games so far, 4 in the rookie league and 3 more for Reno. He has homered in 5 of those games and has been playing left field regularly for the past three games. Lord knows the big club could use him. it probably means more pine time for Ender Inciarte, Gerardo Parra, and certainly for Cody Ross. Because they sure won;t be benching Peralta any time soon.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Luis Veras, AZL 3 for 5, 2 R, 2 DBL, 1 HR (1), 3 RBI
2 Stars: Raul Navarro, Visalia 3 for 4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 DBL, 2 RBI
1 Star: Alfredo Marte, Reno 2 for 5, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 HR (10), 4 RBI
0 Stars: Brad Keller, Missoula 2 IP, 7 H, 5 BB, 1 K, 9 R, L (0-2)

AAA: Reno 15 Las Vegas 4. Andrew Chafin had another solid outing in the tough PCL and he's starting to have more of these in what has been a not-unexpected bumpy start to his AAA debut. He finished with 2 runs allowed over 6 innings on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6. The Reno offense meanwhile exploded for 6 runs in the second and 5 runs in the 3rd to end it early. Mark Trumbo homered again, having done so in all 3 AAA games he has played in so far. Alfredo Marte hit a 3-run homer, his 10th, in a 2 for 5 night. Andy Cunningham went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI out of the leadoff spot. Garrett Webber had 3 hits with 2 RBI and Bobby Wilson had 3 hits with 1 RBI.

AA: Mobile - Off Day

A+: Visalia 12 High Desert 13. The Rawhide dug a huge hole when Eric Brooks got rocked for 9 runs in 3+ innings. But they almost came all the way back. Trailing by 7 entering the bottom of the 9th Visalia scored 6 times culminated by a bases-clearing 3-run double by pinch-hitter Brandon Drury with 1 out. Unfortunately they couldn't cap it off as Socrates Brito and Alex Glenn both struck out stranding Drury on second as the tying run. Raul Navarro went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Fidel Pena hit a 2-run homer and Rudy Flores hit a solo shot.

A: South Bend 4 @ Dayton 5. Starter Hector Hernandez wasn't his best allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in 4+ innings, but the Silver Hawks were still in the game. The offense just couldn't get that last tying run. The offense only had 5 hits but did collect 7 walks. The problem was they were 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position. Breland Almadova had 2 hits and Andrew Velazquez extended his on-base streak to 68 games with a single, a walk and his 37th stolen base.

A-: Hillsboro 2 Boise 6. Ben Eckles got roughed up for 5 runs in 4 innings and the offense was a far cry from overcoming that. They only managed 5 hits with 2 coming from Jordan Parr.

R: Missoula 2 @ Grand Junction 12. The Osprey got smoked as Brad Keller had probably his worst outing as a pro allowing 9 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks in just 2 innings. The offense only came up with 2 runs as Kevin Cron went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Fernery Ozuna went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

AZL: Dbacks 8 @ Cubs 0. Yefrey Ramirez was sharp tossing 5 shutout innings on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Three relievers finished with 4 shutout innings striking out 6. Luis Veras had a big night going 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and a 3-run homer. Ismael Pena hit a solo home run and Henry Castillo went 2 for 4 with a double.
