Game #65: Diamondbacks vs. Braves

After last night's entertaining entity - well, the last three innings were pretty entertaining, anyway! - it's the rubber game of the series, with Chase "Run Support" Anderson seeking to go 5-0.

News this morning that it could well be time for the annual Eric Chavez trip to the DL Seems about right - he missed most of June last season, having appeared in 38 games to that point; and last night was #43 for Eric. His left knee has apparently been bothering him since the Australia series: though, I guess "bothering" is relative, since his OPS+ this season is 116, right in line with Chavez's career average (115). Bit of a problem in that we don't have a "true" 3B backup there. Apparently, Didi Gregorius was taking ground-balls there, but Gibson also mentioned Nick Evans and even... Tuffy Gosewisch? Stay healthy, Prado...

One wonders if the team will replace Chavez, or perhaps go with J.J. Putz, who is apparently almost ready to return, having thrown Thursday and Friday for Reno (one hit in 1.2 scoreless innings, with two strikeouts). Maybe an extra bullpen arm? I mention this possibility, because the only reliever who can be sent down is Evan Marshall, who has been pretty damn good since getting called up, allowing two earned runs in 14.2 innings, with 15 strikeouts. We are in the middle of a long stretch of consecutive games, and had to burn a lot of arms yesterday. It may depend on how deep Anderson pitches into this afternoon's contest, as we have more than two weeks until our next off-day.
