Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 6/7: Think Socrates

One Dbacks prospect who has been progressing nicely but hasn't gotten much attention other than his cool name is Visalia's Socrates Brito. While there's no denying it's a very cool name he's starting to make a real name for himself. Over his last 5 games he's 11 for 21 and is hitting .304 on the season with 5 home runs, 32 RBI and 16 stolen bases. He's on the young side for the California League at 21 and he's starting to fill out and hit the ball with more authority. He kind of reminds me of Gerardo Parra when he was coming up through the minors but he's actually bigger (6-2, 200) and faster than Parra and has more upside. Since being signed at the age of 16 out of the Dominican Republic he has advanced exactly one level each year. He doesn't turn 22 until September and I think there is still some more power to be projected in his game. We already know he has speed having stolen 75 bases so far in his minor league career and he's a good outfield defender, though he's probably short of being a quality big league center fielder. He's one to start watching more closely the next couple of years.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Jake Lamb, Mobile 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 HR (9), 2 RBI
2 Stars: Socrates Brito, Visalia 2 for 4, 1 DBL, 1 TPL, 1 RBI
1 Star: Alfredo Marte, Reno 1 for 1, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 HR (3), 1 RBI, 1 SB
0 Stars: Alex Glenn, Visalia 0 for 4, 3 K

AAA: Reno 6 El Paso 4. Lucas Harrell did it with mirrors last night as he gave up 2 runs over 5 innings on 5 hits and 7 walks. His friend was the double-play ball inducing El Paso into 4 of them. But to be fair, that's his game as a sinkerball pitcher. He didn't get the win though as the offense waited to score 2 runs in each of the 6th and 7th innings to earn the victory for Derek Eitel. Alfredo Marte only had 1 hit but he was all over this game with 2 walks, 2 runs scored, a stolen base, a home run and 2 RBI.

AA: Mobile 4 @ Huntsville 2. The rains continued in Alabama but they did manage to slog through one game with an hour-plus delay though the second scheduled game was rained out. Jake Lamb was the star again going 2 for 4 with a big 2-run homer in the 6th inning. Michael Lee started and was terrific putting up 4 shutout innings on 1 hit before the rains came and knocked out both starters. Pinch hitter Raywilly Gomez drove in 2 runs in the 8th on a line drive single that was the game winner. Kaleb Fleck picked up his second save.

A+: Visalia 2 Lancaster 7. Starter Spencer Arroyo was sub-par allowing 6 runs (5 earned) in 6 innings of work. The offense never threatened to overcome that with just 2 runs on 5 hits. Socrates Brito did his part with a double, a triple and an RBI.

A: South Bend 2 @ West Michigan 4. John Omahen was dropped down to make the start for South Bend was was so-so allowing 3 runs over 5 innings. The offense only came up with 2 runs on 7 hits. Stryker Trahan went 2 for 4 with a double and is doing better of late with 7 hits in his last 4 games. Let's hope it's the beginning of something.
