Quotables

As everybody knows, the ball carries very well here. We elevated a lot of balls, got some extra-base hits, got some hits when they counted. We kept the line moving and did good enough defensively and pitching. We got on a little bit of a roll. We want to continue that.

- Kirk Gibson

It's a very strange place to pitch. I threw a lot of fastballs today, stayed away from the breaking ball because it's hard to make it move here. I probably threw two-thirds fastballs, which isn't usual for me.

- Bronson Arroyo

I still have a lot more to learn, and I'm sure the Diamondbacks will help me out through this process and will take care of me and help me become a pitcher, not just a thrower like everyone says.

- Touki Toussaint

D-backs ride homers to first sweep of season | MLB.com
It took 62 games, more than one-third of the season, but the D-backs finally have the satisfaction of sweeping a series. In keeping with the bumpy road they have traveled in 2014, it wasn't easy.

Braves hoping to find offensive rhythm | MLB.com
D-backs starter Brandon McCarthy will be the next pitcher tasked with trying to cool down Braves right fielder Jason Heyward. Heyward carries a nine-game hitting streak into Atlanta's seven-game road trip beginning on Friday night at Chase Field. McCarthy has never faced Heyward, who is making many pitchers these days look like they are facing him for the first time. He has hit safely in 21 of his past 24 games, reaching base safely in 23 of those contests.

Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley would rather not discuss his homer issue
Diamondbacks left-hander Wade Miley has a new problem, and he figures the more he talks about it, the better the chances of it getting worse. In 82 2/3 innings, Miley has allowed 14 home runs, the second-highest total in the majors. He gave up four — all of them solo shots — to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday at Chase Field. His home run rate of 1.5 per nine innings is nearly double his rate of 0.8 from the past two seasons combined.

Back when he was playing for the New York Yankees in 2012, Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez marveled at outfielder Raul Ibanez and the phenomenal shape he kept himself in. "I was like, 'What are you eating, bro? You're 40 years old and you're in better shape than anybody,' " Chavez said.

Arizona takes hard-throwing Reed in Round 2 | dbacks.com
The numbers for the D-backs second-round pick are simply ridiculous. Left-hander Cody Reed, who the D-backs picked No. 54 overall, was 10-2 with a 0.46 ERA this past season for Ardmore (Ala.) High School.

Wilson pegged as D-backs' first position player pick | dbacks.com
