#Dbacks recall Didi Gregorius from the Triple-A Reno @Aces and place Cliff Pennington on the 15-day DL (sprained ligament, left thumb).
— Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) June 3, 2014
Didi Gregorius has come back to the Diamondbacks. Due to a sprained ligament in his left thumb, Cliff Pennington has been placed on the 15-day Disabled List and Gregorius has been called up to replace him.
This is, technically, Didi's second tour with the big club this year, as he played in both games in Australia against the Dodgers and was hitless in five plate-appearances with one walk. He started the "normal" regular season with the Aces, and put up a line of .310/.389/.447 at the plate. More interestingly, he's played more games at Second (39) than Shortstop (19) mostly due to Nick Ahmed's presence in Reno.
Last season, Gregorius played in 103 games for the Diamondbacks and put up a line of .252/.332/.373 with 7 Home Runs.
Pennington, so far this season, has been hitting .243/.325/.324 this season and has been the De facto middle infielder backup, spelling Chris Owings and Aaron Hill at Short and Second.
