Only change from yesterday is Owings' return to the line-up in place of Didi Gregorius, and he swaps places with Parra for the lead-off spot. It's a tricky situation Gibson is in with regard to Chris and Didi, since the injury to acknowledged backup Cliff Pennington means that he now has two young players, both of whom would benefit from regular playing time, but only one spot for them. Sure, we could bench Aaron Hill and play both, but there are about 11 million reasons why that isn't happening. Even if the long term intention is to trade Hill, he needs to play, because what message would it send to potential buyers if he's sitting on the bench?
Curious to see what attendance there is at Chase. Perhaps surprisingly, weekday matinee games haven't seen the worst crowds for the Diamondbacks: three of the four lowest are Monday nights, with the other on Tuesday night. Low so far in 2014, was Monday, May 12 against the Nationals, where the announced crowd was 16,555. I think these afternoon games perhaps benefit from group sales, schools, etc. There are also discounted ticket prices generally. Currently, the team is unsurprisingly down - about 1,600 per game, which would translate to a full-year crowd just above two million. They'll have to get their selling shoes on if they want to beat 2009's previous low.
