According to Nick Piecoro on AZ Central J.J. Putz is headed to the DL with right forearm tightness and Evan Marshall is being called up to take his spot. Marshall has been tearing it up for Reno so far this year appearing in 14 games with a 0.54 ERA over 16.2 innings. He has allowed 10 hits and 5 walks while striking out 19 and sports a .175 BAA. Those are stout numbers for the hitting-crazed PCL. Marshall has made a slow but steady climb through the system since being drafted in the 4th round of the 2011 draft. He had a few bumps along the way and there was a time when it was doubtful if he was going to progress enough to make it to the major leagues. But he has put it all together this season and has certainly earned this opportunity.
Snake Stars

2 Stars: Socrates Brito, Visalia 2 for 3, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 DBL
1 Star: Nick Evans, Reno 2 for 5, 1 R, 2 DBL, 1 RBI
0 Stars: Jake Lamb, Mobile 0 for 4, 4 K
Triple A: Reno 7 @ Salt Lake 6. The Aces battled back from a late 6-4 deficit with 2 in the 8th and another in the 9th to steal one from Salt Lake. Lucas Harrell started and was pretty shaky allowing 6 runs on 12 hits in 4.1 innings. The bullpen was stout though with 5 relievers pitching the final 4.2 innings without allowing a run on 2 hits with 7 strikeouts. Jess Todd tossed a perfect 9th for his 5th save. Nick Evans went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and Mike Jacobs hit a 2-run homer in the first.
Double A: Mobile 1 Mississippi 4. A.J. Schugel had a decent outing but the offense couldn't back him up. Schugel allowed 4 runs (3 earned) over 7 innings on 7 hits and no walks while striking out 4. Garrett Webber went 2 for 4 with a triple while Sean Jamieson and Raywilly Gomez each had a pair of singles. My jinx of Jake Lamb continues as he wore the Golden Sombrero after earning snake stars the day before.
High A: Visalia 8 Stockton 6. Andrew Barbosa continues to build his pitch count back up as he started and threw 3 shutout innings on a hit and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts. Henry Garcia allowed 4 runs in the 5th but Keith Hessler got things under control with 3 shutout innings while the offense surged ahead. Jimmie Sherfy pitched the 9th and struggled allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and 2 walks with a strikeout. Alex Glenn and Brandon Drury each clubbed 2-run homers, the 8th for Drury and 7th for Glenn. Evan Marzilli went 2 for 4 with his 2nd home run and Socrates Brito went 2 for 3 with a walk and a double.
A: South Bend 4 Bowling Green 9. The Silver Hawks battled back to a 4-4 tie in the 8th but it all came undone on J.R. Bradley's watch in the 9th. It wasn't all Bradley's fault though as he had one on with 2 outs when Andrew Velazquez booted a ground ball that should have been the third out. Bradley was clearly unnerved and subsequently surrendered 2 singles and a triple, and the game was lost. So even though Bradley was central to the big inning none of the 5 runs scored were earned so he maintains his perfect 0.00 ERA. Jamie Westbrook paced the offense going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Michael Perez and Breland Almadova each had a pair of singles. The bigger news was the start by Braden Shipley which wasn't exactly stellar allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts in 6 innings of work.
