Josh Collmenter threw six innings of two-run baseball and the three relievers after him kept it scoreless, though they were a stressful three zeroes.
Zack Wheeler, Collmenter's counterpart, settled down after two rough innings in the second and third and went into the seventh inning with just two earned runs allowed, striking out seven along the way. The Diamondbacks scored two in the second on back-to-back RBI singles from Martin Prado and Cody Ross. Arizona then tacked on one more in the third with a little help from a Wilmer Flores error to allow Paul Goldschmidt to reach safely. He was advanced to second when Aaron Hill was hit by a pitch, setting up a another Prado RBI single.
The Mets' only two runs came from an RBI ground rule double off the bat of Curtis Granderson in the third, and a David Wright solo shot in the fifth to pull New York within one run. Tried as they might, the Mets couldn't push across a run in the final third of the ballgame to give the Diamondbacks their first win in five days.
