Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 5/16: Shipley Ks 8

I keep waiting for Braden Shipley to join Aaron Blair at High A Visalia but he hasn't quite been able to dominate the Midwest League like Blair did. He started last night and while I headlined that he struck out 8 he still had that one bad inning that turned the outing into a mediocre one. He allowed 3 runs in the 4th inning on a couple of singles and a triple and that essentially ruined what overall was a pretty good effort. He finished with just those 3 runs allowed on 5 hits and 2 walks over 6 innings. The strikeouts are encouraging though and a few more outings not unlike that one will have him moving up the ladder.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: A.J. Schugel. Mobile 6.1 IP, 7 H, 0 BB, 5 K, 0 ER
2 Stars: Brandon Sinnery, Visalia 7 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 R, 0 ER, W (5-2)
1 Star: Steve McQuail, South Bend 3 for 4, 1 R, 1 TPL, 1 RBI
0 Stars: Jimmie Sherfy, Mobile 1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K, 3 ER, 1 BS

AAA: Reno 4 Salt Lake 5. A close game got blown open in the 7th when Kevin Munson struggled allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. Mike Bolsinger started and did his part allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 2 over 5 innings. Reno scored 2 in the first on a Mike Jacobs double and an Andy Marte groundout. But they were stymied from there until the 9th when they threatened a walk-off win with 2 runs and runners on 1st and third, but Nick Ahmed flied out to end the game. Nick Evans tripled and walk in 5 tries.

AA: Mobile 4 Chatanooga 3. A.J. Schugel was particularly sharp with 6+ shutout innings. The Bay Bears led 3-0 when Jimmie Sherfy came on and was not particularly sharp. He allowed the tying runs on 2 hits, a walk and a hit batter. He undeservedly got the win when David Peralta singled home Tom Belza in the bottom of the 8th. Jake Barret pitched an entertaining 9th allowing a couple of base runners but ended up with his 5th save. Peralta went 3 for 4 on the night and Gerson Montilla went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Montilla is on fire with 13 hits in his last 7 games and appears to have earned himself a full-time gig in the outfield as a result.

A+. Visalia 5 San Jose 1. Brandon Sinnery had another terrific start allowing just an unearned run over 7 innings. The offense did its part with Rudy Flores leading the way with 2 hits including his 8th homer of the year. Ryan Court went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles.

A: South Bend 5 Fort Wayne 3. The Silver Hawks rallied to break a 3-3 tie in the 8th inning that featured key hits by Steve McQuail and Stryker Trahan. Braden Shipley had the one bad inning but was very good outside of that with 8 strikeouts over 6 innings. Daniel Gibson vultured the win getting one out in the 8th, and Silvino Bracho got his 3rd save with a shutout 9th that included a couple of strikeouts. McQuail went 3 for 4 on the night with a triple and an RBI.
