Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 5/11: Marzilli Homers Again?

Evan Marzilli hit his 4th home run in his last 9 games.
Evan Marzilli hit his 4th home run in his last 9 games.

What the heck is going on here? Evan Marzilli, light-hitting, glove-flashing, middle-of-the-diamond defender hit his 4th home run in his last 9 games. He had hit 3 home runs in his first two professional seasons, a span of almost 200 games! Is this kid really going to start hitting? Is he really going to give us a power element to his game? To date we haven't seen anything of this sort and I for one had already labeled him an organizational center fielder who would never hit enough to make it all the way. Maybe I was too rash...maybe. You can be sure I'll be watching a little closer going forward because if he can become a 10-15 homer guy with decent on base skills and plus defense in center field he suddenly becomes a little more valuable than what I've projected. Stay tuned.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Nick Ahmed, Reno 3 for 4, 1 R, 1 DBL, 1 RBI
2 Stars: Lucas Harrell, Reno 7 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K, 1 ER, W (1-0)
1 Star: J.R. Bradley, Visalia 1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K
0 Stars: Socrates Brito, Visalia 0 for 4, 2 K

Triple A: Reno 6 Fresno 2. Much maligned Lucas Harrell put in a fine day of work yesterday with a strong 7 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks. He earned the win behind a nice offensive game from shortstop Nick Ahmed who went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Andy Marte hit his 5th home run and 3rd in his last 4 games.

Double A: Mobile - Rained Out

High A: Visalia 5 @ Bakersfield 3. Andrew Barbosa stretched out a bit further yesterday going 3.2 innings though he wasn't as sharp allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Barbosa has 41 strikeouts and 11 walks in 25 innings so far this season. If he could ever get completely healthy he still has the potential to go all the way. The offense picked him up with a 3-run outburst in the 7th that broke a 2-2 tie. Evan Marzilli delivered the big blow in that inning with a 2-run homer. Alex Glenn hit his 8th homer and is having an outstanding season to date displaying an impressive combination of power and speed with a .935 OPS and 7 stolen bases. He's starting to emerge as a very interesting prospect.
