Cahill was in trouble from the get-go, and it was Snakeeater Brandon Belt who did the first damage, clubbing his fifth home-run of the young season to put the home team 2-0 up before any of their hitters had been retired. Arizona got a run back on an error in the second, but a three-spot for the Giants in the third inning, put them 5-1 up, and this one effectively out of reach. Cahill became the first D-backs starter pulled before getting through four innings, being charged with five runs, all earned, on eight hits and a walk in 3.2 innings.
The offense did do a little better against Tim Hudson this time round - in that they scored off him. A whole two earned runs, in fact. Miguel Montero drove in our second run with a sacrifice fly, and a Tony Campana triple in the eighth helped set up our third and final tally. Martin Prado had three of our seven hits, continuing his improvement, and there were zeroes posted in relief by Oliver Perez, Brad Ziegler and J.J. Putz. However, it was hardly the kind of performance we wanted to see. as we open a stretch of nine games in nine days.
