It wasn't an electric performance or anything but it was a very good first outing in the brutal PCL for top prospect Archie Bradley. Bradley pitched 5 shutout innings allowing 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Plenty of people will be paying close attention to what Bradley does over his next several starts because one thing the big league club needs is competent pitching. Bradley is the obvious top candidate to provide that and the team may not have the luxury of waiting until after his Super 2 status expires.
Snake Stars
3 Stars: Stryker Trahan, South Bend 2 for 3, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 HR (1), 4 RBI
2 Stars: Ender Inciarte, Reno 3 for 5, 2 R, 1 DBL, 1 TPL, 3 RBI
1 Star: Archie Bradley, Reno 5 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 0 ER, W (1-0)
Triple A: Reno 9 El Paso 1. Archie Bradley did his part by putting up five zeros in his first AAA start, and the offense did its part with a 9-run outburst that made for an easy win. Bradley completed his 5 innings on 87 pitches and probably could have gone one more but the game was already out of reach so no reason to push him. Ender Inciarte led the 12-hit attack with a double, a triple and 3 RBI. Didi Gregorius got his bat going with a 3 for 4 game including a walk, a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Mike Jacobs went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI and Nick Ahmed scored three runs off a pair of walks and a stolen base.
Double A: Mobile @ Mississippi. Postponed for weather.
High A: Visalia 4 Stockton 0. Former Cardinals farm hand Hector Hernandez was terrific in his debut for the Diamondbacks with 6 shutout innings on 4 hits and a walk. He struck out one. Keith Hessler tacked on 2 innings of shutout relief with 4 strikeouts and Enrique Burgos finished it off with a clean 9th. Brandon Drury did the most damage going 2 for 4 with a double and his second homer of the year.
Single A: South Bend 7 @ Bowling Green 5. Stryker Trahan delivered a 2-run homer in the top of the 10th to make a winner of J.R. Bradley and earn a split in their 4-game series with Bowling Green. Starter Blake Perry got bounced around a bit allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and a walk over 5 innings. But the bullpen followed with 5 shutout innings including three from John Omahen. two from J.R. Bradley, and one from Daniel Gibson who earned his first save of the year. Michael Perez added a double and 3 RBI.
