Well, that's the same line-up as yesterday, and officially matched Kirk Gibson's 2013 high for any line-up. I don't think it's the offense that has really been the problem: sure, sitting 9th in OPS isn't good, especially considering where we've played. The pitching, however... ERA of 6.69, dead last in the National League - and it's not even close, with the 14th-placed Rockies more than 1.20 runs lower than the D-backs. That's an ERA+ of 59. Now, I'm pretty sure we're not that bad, and a BABIP of close to 30 points above league average should regress. But, damn, this season has be tough to watch. And we're not even 5% of the way through it yet.
Win or lose, tomorrow's an off-day, which will give the team a chance to regroup. It would certainly be preferable to go into that with a victory, perhaps giving some hope that the corner has been turned, rather than another defeat and a 1-8 record. Either way, it'll be a chance to take stock and evaluate... WTF, basically. I'm damn sure that Ken Kendrick is not a happy man, having ponied up for the largest payroll in team history, only to see the resulting roster illustrate a fascinating selection of ways to lose baseball games. There is potentially a certain point where watching the D-backs' world burn will be more entertaining. Not quite there yet though. Go, Miley.
azcougs will be guest recapping this one. If we win, he will be required to do every recap for the rest of the season. I may have forgotten to mention this when explaining how it works.
