Game #30: Diamondbacks vs. Rockies

Hurry, hurry, hurry. Spin the Wheel o' Defeat, and see where it lands for the Diamondbacks tonight? Will it be a bullpen meltdown? Offensive invisibility? Starter being awful? We've seen all these in the current losing streak. Of course, there's also the small sliver marked "W", but let's not get over-excited there.

It's kinda sad that defeat has become such a part of the 2014 Diamondbacks season, that it's more the manner of the loss which provides a reason for interest, rather than whether it'll happen or not. I mean, last season it took until May 30th to achieve our 23rd loss - this year, we could reach that while April is still on the calendar. After the false dawn of the three-win streak, we have sunk right back into record-setting territory again. If we don't win tonight, and go to an 8-22 record, there won't have been a National League team with a worse start over the first 30 games, since the 1999 Marlins.

Avoiding that is largely across the shoulders of Mike Bolsinger, who will need to do a much better job of shutting the Rockies down than Miley did last night. Bolsinger's last start was excellent, but a couple of things need to be pointed out. Firstly, it was against the Cubs. Secondly... Did I mention the Cubs? Certainly, Colorado will provide a bit more of a challenge for Bolsinger. Decent though Mike's last outing certainly was, it's still a small sample of work on which he can be judged, and hopefully, he can learn from it, taking what worked and build upon it, as he goes forward. That will likely determine his potential as a major-league pitcher.

imstillhungry95 should be off the disabled list to recap this one, but I think I saw something on Twitter about him first popping off to rescue a kitten stuck on top of a high-voltage pylon... No possibility of anything going wrong there. :)
