Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 4/26: What's Up With Archie?

Does Archie Bradley need an intervention for his mini-slump?
Does Archie Bradley need an intervention for his mini-slump?

Okay, so this is starting to get a little concerning. It's beyond a question of whether or not he should be called up. We're way past that. It's time to start wondering what's going on with the supposed top pitching prospect in baseball. In his last 3 starts Archie Bradley has pitched 12.1 innings allowing 19 hits and 8 walks leading to 12 earned runs. Yuck. Is he working on his 3rd pitch? Is it the brutal PCL? Should they have left him in Mobile? Are we overreacting? Is he overrated? Should his agent keep his thoughts to himself? Whatever it is it ain't working right now.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Socrates Brito, Visalia 3 for 4, 1 R, 2 DBL, 4 RBI
2 Stars: Mike Freeman, Mobile 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 TPL, 1 HR (3), 2 RBI
1 Star: Nick Evans, Reno 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI
0 Stars: Archie Bradley, Reno 4.1 IP, 7 H, 4 BB, 3 K, 5 ER, L (1-4)

Triple A: Reno 5 Salt Lake 8. Archie Bradley had another poor start, probably his worst of the year as he allowed 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 4 walks. He's definitely scuffling right now. Someone who is not scuffling is Nick Evans who hit another home run, his 6th in his last 8 games. Alfredo Marte had 2 doubles and an RBI and Mike Jacobs went 2 for 4 with a double.

Double A: Mobile 6 Jackson 2. Andrew Chafin had another fine start going 6 innings while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts. He's not blowing people away but he's really managing things on the mound and finished with an efficient 82 pitches. The bullpen followed up with 3 shutout innings on 1 hit and 5 strikeouts. Mike Freeman was the offensive star with a triple and his 3rd home run. He has never hit more than 3 home runs in a season and has 3 in April. Is he eating his Wheaties? David Peralta added a solo home run.

High A: Visalia 8 Modesto 2.This was the continuation of the previous night's suspended game. Kyle Winkler took over for John Omahen who had started last night with 4 shutout innings. Winkler went 3 innings and allowed 1 run while striking out 5 to earn the win. Cody Wheeler went the final 2 innings allowing no runs with 3 strikeouts. Socrates Brito went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Fidel Pena hit a 2-run homer, walked twice and scored 3 runs.

High A: Visalia 4 Modesto 2. The Rawhide improved to 17-6 in this 7-inning affair as Spencer Arroyo had another excellent start going 5+ innings allowing an unearned run on 2 hits and no walks while striking out 3. Jimmie Sherfy earned his 6th save with 2 strikeouts but did allow a solo home run, his second consecutive game doing so. Ronnie Freeman went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the offense.

South Bend 6 Lake County 4. Starter Ben Eckels was...effectively wild? He went 4 plus innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits and 4 walks. Blayne Weller helped him out by coming on in the 5th and striking out both batters he faced to escape another jam. Daniel Gibson struck out the side in the 8th and J.R.Bradley earned his 4th save with 2 strikeouts in the 9th. He is still perfect on the season. The offense pounded out 10 hits with Stryker Trahan going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Joe Munoz going 2 for 4 with an RBI.
