We've been talking plenty about Chase Anderson of late and he gave us more reason for that with 6+ shutout innings last night. He only walked 1 while striking out 6 and allowed 5 hits. He has struck out 31 in 32 innings with a K/BB of 6.2 and just 19 hits allowed. It really is time to push him to the next level. I was listening to a podcast the other day where Piecoro was talking about Chafin being on the radar as a possible call-up pitcher. But I just don't see how he is ahead of Anderson at this point.
Snake Stars
3 Stars: Blake Perry, South Bend 6.2 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 6 K, 0 ER
2 Stars: Chase Anderson, Mobile 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K, 0 ER, W (3-2)
1 Star: Jake Lamb, Mobile 2 for 3, 1 BB, 2 DBL, 0 K
0 Stars: Charles Brewer, Reno 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 6 ER, L (2-3)
Triple A: Reno 1 Salt Lake 7. In a game shortened by rain the Aces were drilled by Salt Lake as Charles Brewer got bounced around and the offense could only manage 1 run on 6 hits. Didi Gregorius had 2 hits but also made 2 errors, both on throws.
Double A: Mobile 3 Jackson 0. Chase Anderson pitched into the 7th inning without allowing a run and the bullpen took things from there. Matt Stites pitched a shutout 8th though he gave up 2 hits, and Jake Barrett pitched a perfect 9th with a strikeout for his 3rd save. Jake Lamb went 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 doubles, and while he hardly has things turned around he is getting the strikeouts under control with just 6 Ks in his last 10 games. He is showing signs of getting ready to take off. Mike Freeman went 2 for 4 with a double and Steve Rodriguez delivered an RBI double.
High A: Visalia 6 Modesto 1. This game was suspended with the Rawhide up big 6-1 through 4 innings. John Omahen was through 4 with an unearned run allowed due to 2 errors from Brandon Drury. Socrates Brito had 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Alex Glenn and Brandon Jacobs each added a triple.
Low A: South Bend 1 Lake County 0. Blake Perry had a no-hitter going through 6.2 innings before a two-out single and a walk got him the hook. Silvino Bracho took over and cleaned things up plus added a shutout 8th. Bracho was Missoula's closer last year where he dominated with a 38/3 K/BB ratio over 26 innings. This was his first appearance of the year. The 21-year-old is just another strong bullpen arm in the organization. J.R. Bradley struck out the side to close things out for his 3rd save. In 9 games covering 8 innings Bradley has yet to allow a run with 14 strikeouts. South Bend scored the winning run in the 8th without a hit. Daniel Palka went 2 for 3 with a double.
