Spring Training Games #7 + #8: Gameday Thread

The third split-squad day on the schedule, but this one should go better than the half a game managed on Saturday. Brandon McCarthy starts on TV this afternoon, and Archie Bradley will hopefully do the same at Salt River Fields tonight.

First chance for the majority of people (including myself) to see the Diamondbacks in action, as this afternoon's game is on Fox Sports 1. I don't think that is a channel which has ever actually troubled my remote control before, so there may be some advance preparation necessary to find the thing. :) I'm also wondering if the new instant replay rules will be in play for this one. MLB.com reports that the Cubs-Brewers game at Maryvale will be "one of several featuring the first use of Major League Baseball's expanded instant replay review system." Since the TV cameras will also be at Salt River Fields, it would make sense.

Here's what Kirk Gibson had to say, when asked what he wants to see out of Bradley tonight. "I just want him to go out there and pitch. He's been working on everything. The one thing to worry about is him getting too much on his mind. He's a natural power guy. He knows he's got to command the zone. He knows he's got to throw strikes. He's got something most guys don't have [a hard fastball] and we'd like to see him use it. I don't want him to go out there and think he's some finesse pitcher right now." Just a shame he was scheduled for the non-televised game today, it's certainly something we'd all have wanted to see. But, reasons, I'm sure.

And, in case you're wondering who that is at first-base, I'll refer you to our non-roster invitees viewing guide. But in short, he was the Mobile Baybears' MVP last year, and is also a local kid, having been born in Glendale.
