13 Diamondbacks reassigned

The Arizona Diamondbacks made 13 roster moves yesterday, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers. The D-backs have 40 players in camp, 32 from the 40-man roster and 8 non-roster players. The D-backs 40-man roster is at 40 players.

Optioned to Triple-A Reno:
  • LHP Eury De la Rosa
  • OF Ender Inciarte
  • OF Alfredo Marte
  • RHP Zeke Spruill
Reassigned to Minor League camp:
  • INF Nick Ahmed
  • RHP Jake Barrett
  • RHP Mike Bolsinger
  • OF Danny Dorn
  • INF Nick Evans
  • INF Jake Lamb
  • RHP Adam Russell
  • RHP Matt Stites
  • C Bobby Wilson

Three of the players assigned to Reno saw major-league playing time in 2013: de la Rosa, Marte and Spruill. de la Rosa was one of the candidates to join the team on the trip to Australia as an additional bullpen arm, but one would imagine that it's more likely to be the recently-signed Oliver Perez. Quite surprised to remember that Marte actually played in 22 games last season, but I think Tony Campana is likely above him on the depth chart at this point, and Spruill, who appeared six times and even started twice for us, is probably eighth or ninth among starting pitchers.

No great surprises in the names assigned to minor-league camp. Dorn is out of action with a fracture of his wrist, suffered earlier this spring. Stites is still someone we might see help the bullpen later in the year, and Wilson is now presumably out of the race for the backup catcher's spot, with Tuffy Gosewisch apparently back to full health. One would imagine this could be it until the roster is finalized for the trip down under, at the end of next week - it was also announced today that Archie Bradley will be starting the exhibition game the night before, against Team Australia.
