Diamondbacks Trade for Hellickson

The Tampa Bay right-hander comes to the Diamondbacks in exchange for two prospects.

Let the games begin. Dave Stewart and Matt Silverman have officially made their first moves as the new GMs of Arizona and Tampa Bay. The Diamondbacks have shipped prospects Justin Williams and Andrew Velazquez to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed starter Jeremy Hellickson.

Hellickson was named AL ROY in 2011, but has since seen his star fall some. From 2012-2013, Hellickson pitched to a 4.13 ERA across 351 IP, good for an ERA+ of 93. In 2014, Hellickson went under the knife to have his elbow cleaned up, limiting his production sample to only 63.2 IP during which he put together a 4.52 ERA.

Hellickson is certain to figure into the rotation for 2015, featuring a 91 mph fastball, a change-up, and a curve that varies between quite good and downright horrible. For his career he averages 7.6 SO/9 with a BB/K ratio of 210/463 (2.20).
