With the end of the baseball season also comes the season finale of Fang Food. I think I speak for Patrick, Whit, and myself when I say it's been a lot of fun. Thank you to you all for reading every edition, and commenting and providing suggests when you felt the need. Reading your thoughts on the recipes I've posted has been something I've looked forward to every time I wrote one of these.
Special thanks goes to Jim. Obviously, he's been great to give us space on the front page for these, but there's more to it then that. He actually put Whit, Patrick, and myself in touch to get this all started originally. So, thank you, Jim. It's been a blast!
We'll be back next season, right along side the Dbacks, but we're just going to take the winter off. I am going to spend my off-season thinking of more recipes to give you guys next year, so you aren't getting rid of us that easily :-) However, what's the perfect recipe to share right now? Something bittersweet, and perfect at BBQ's... Oh! I know!
Lemonade! Lemonade! Just like Grandma made!
Courtesy of America's Test Kitchen
Ingredients:
1 large lemon, sliced
1 1/2 cups sugar
7 cups cold water
2 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 12 lemons)
Ice (for serving)
Optional
1 cup fresh mint leaves
2 cups fresh strawberries
4 tablespoons grated ginger
Can't really recommend using more than one of these at a time.
Directions:
1. Using potato masher, mash together the lemon slices, sugar, and any optional flavorings you choose to add. Mash until the lemons release their juices and the sugar begins to dissolve. Stir in water and lemon juice until sugar completely dissolves. Strain out lemon slices and chill or pour over ice before serving. Serve chilled, and enjoy!
And that's that! Nothing is set in stone yet, but I have a couple ideas for possible non-party related foods that I might share during the off season. Come on back to the 'Pit anyway, though! Next few weeks there's going to be the playoffs, plus a bunch of other stuff that I'm not privy to after that. Plus, for every hundred unique visitors the site gets, Jim gives us writers a moldy crust of bread to fight over. Also, don't forget to tune in at 8 P.M. Arizona time for the season finale of the Video Roundtable series! I heard a rumor that there will be props...
