Dbacks Minor League Round-Up 8/2: Archie Delivers Complete Game Win

Some of the clamor to call up Archie Bradley had dissipated a bit over his last few outings as his walks skyrocketed and he wasn't his usual unhittable self. But this latest outing in which he delivered a 105-pitch, complete game victory in which he only allowed 1 unearned run, might get the cacophony (and maybe that's overstating it but it's a cool word) restarted. This win featured some highlights that everyone has been wanting to see from Bradley that would signal maybe he's ready. Lower walks (just 1), more efficiency (105 pitches for 9 innings), and inducing more groundouts (9/3 GO/AO). Plus he did strike out 7. In fairness, it should be noted that Jackson isn't a very imposing lineup with only one starter hitting above .270. So let's not go too gaga. But it was a great performance that signals Bradley is getting closer and closer to being big league ready.

Triple A: Reno 6 @ Oklahoma City 7. The Aces knack for losing continued in spite of a late rally to get within one. Garrett Mock started and dug a hole allowing 4 runs in 4 innings. Chase Anderson (who has been turned into a reliever in case nobody noticed) followed and allowed 3 more runs in 2 innings. The offense rallied for 4 runs in the 8th behind 2 RBI each from veterans Juan Rivera and Mike Jacobs. Our high profile prospects have cooled off of late. Chris Owings is hitting .214 in his last 10 games and Matt Davidson is hitting .140 in his last 10.

Double A: Mobile 5 Jackson 1. Archie Bradley dominated this game from the start going the distance allowing just 1 unearned run in the 8th inning. Justin Greene led an adequate offense going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Ender Inciarte stole his 36th base.

High A: Visalia 7 Rancho Cucamonga 9. Brandon Sinnery got roughed up in the middle innings after a good start and ended up allowing 6 runs over 5 innings. Cody Wheeler couldn't keep it there to give the offense a chance as he allowed 2 more runs. The offense did battle back and got within 1 in the 8th when Sean Jamieson hit a 3-run homer. But that was as close as it got. Jon Griffin hit a 3-run homer in the 1st inning to get things started. Kevin Medrano and Gerson Montilla each went 3 for 5.

Low A: South Bend 1 Lansing 5. Jesse Darrah wasn't his best giving up 5 runs over 6 innings. And the offense was even worse scoring 1 run on 8 hits as they went 1 for 10 with RISP. Michael Perez and Alex Glenn each had 2 hits.

Short Season A: Hillsboro 8 @ Vancouver 9. Braden Shipley continues to struggle with pro ball and once again couldn't get past the 3rd inning. He allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits (though no walks) in 2.2 innings, and he struck out 2. He's now carrying a 7.80 ERA in his first 7 starts as a professional. The offense came up with a huge rally in the 9th scoring 5 times to tie the game at 8-8 that featured a bases-loaded double by George Roberts and a couple of errors. But a 2-out single off J.R. Bradley in the 10th gave Vancouver the walk-off win.

Rookie: Game 1. Missoula 5 Helena 1.Starter Carlos Hernandez was terrific allowing 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings with a whopping 9 strikeouts. Stryker Trahan hit his 4th home run and Jose Queliz went 2 for 3 with a double to lead the balanced offensive attack.

Rookie: Game 2. Missoula 1 Helena 12. The nightcap of the double-header wasn't worth sticking around for as Bobby Hillier got roasted for 8 runs in 3+ innings. The offense responded with 4 singles. End of story.

AZL Rookie: Dbacks 9 Angels 1. Dallas Newton had his best outing as a professional spinning 5 shutout innings on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 6. Ronny Mejias and Matt McPhearson each went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI to lead the offense. Justin Williams went 2 for 4 with a double and is hitting .330 on the season.
