Dbacks Minor League Round-Up 8/26: Another 20 Hits for the Osprey

On Sunday Missoula scored 12 runs on 20 hits. Last night they scored 13 runs on 20 more hits. That's 40 hits in two games. Missoula is last in the Pioneer League in home runs but they hit 5 of them yesterday. It's no wonder the Dbacks don't send their top pitching prospects to Missoula, opting instead for Hillsboro which has a distinct lack of hitters. The Osprey aren't having the best of seasons and barring a miracle won't get the chance to defend their Pioneer League title.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Michael Lang, South Bend 4 for 5, 1 R, 2 DBL, 1 TPL, 3 RBI
2 Stars: Andrew Barbosa, Visalia 6 IP, 2 H, 5 BB, 7 K, 0 ER, W (10-9)
1 Star: Jake Mayers, Missoula 3 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR (3), 5 RBI
0 Stars: Zeke Spruill, Reno 2.2 IP, 10 H, 3 BB, 2 K, 9 ER, L (5-5)

Triple A: Reno 4 @ Tucson 12. Zeke Spruill might have been a candidate to make a spot start for the Dbacks on Tuesday, but that call went to David Holmberg instead. So what did Spruill do in response? He got rocked. He allowed 8 runs in the 3rd inning and that was the end of this one. Brad Snyder went 2 for 5 with a double and a triple as one of the few bright spots.

Double A: Mobile 0 @ Tennessee 6. Andrew Chafin had a somewhat uneven start though it wasn't a disaster as he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) in 5+ innings. The offense only came up with 4 hits and that was that.

High A: Visalia 3 @ Stockton 1. Andrew Barbosa returned to form after a couple of sub-par starts as he threw 6 shutout innings on 2 hits and 5 walks while striking out 7. Kind of reminds me of Bradley's line the day before. The offense did just enough to get him the victory. Seth Simmons took care of things in the 7th, Kaleb Fleck handled the 8th, and RJ Hively the 9th for his 12th save. Kevin Medrano had 3 singles and scored 3 runs. Jake Lamb went 1 for 2 with 2 walks and an RBI.

Low A: South Bend 8 Great Lakes 7. The Silver Hawks and Enrique Burgos blew a 6-2 lead in the 9th when they allowed 5 runs. But the offense came back with 2 in the bottom of the 9th to win it in walk-off fashion. Rudy Flores drove in the tying run with a double and Breland Almadova delivered the game-winner with a 1-out single. Robert Coe was decent allowing 2 runs over 6 innings. Enrique Burgos couldn't find the plate and he was relieved by Jimmy Sherfy who allowed 2 hits before getting the final 2 outs. That effort earned him the win. Michael lang had a big night going 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, a triple and 3 RBI. Rudy Flores went 3 for 5 with a double.

Short Season A: Hillsboro 3 Boise 4. Austin Platt started the game with 3 shutout innings, but Yoimer Camacho followed and surrendered 4 runs in his 3+ innings of work. The offense couldn't overcome that as George Roberts and Elvin Soto each had a pair of hits.

Rookie: Missoula 13 @ Orem 6. The offense produced 20 hits for the second game in a row as each starter had at least 1 hit and 1 run scored. Jake Mayers led the way going 3 for 4 with 5 RBI. Ryan Kinsella and Justin Williams produced 3 hits apiece. Williams is hitting .412 since being called up 11 games ago. There were 5 home runs hit by Mayers, Colin Bray, Stryker Trahan, Jamie Westbrook and Grant Nelson. Tyler Toyfair earned the win with 3 shutout innings of relief with 4 strikeouts.

AZL Rookie: Dbacks 2 Dodgers 8. Brad Keller couldn't find the plate with 5 walks in less than 3 innings. Combined with 4 defensive errors and this one got ugly in a hurry. The offense produced 5 hits in response.
