The Arizona Diamondbacks will wear "throwback" jerseys during their road game in Philadelphia, as part of the Phillies' 1990's Retro Night. The D-backs wore those black alternate uniform and cap combination, with purple and teal trim during the 1999 and 2000 seasons: Patrick Corbin was 11. :) If you're downtown, you can join alumni Augie Ojeda and Albie Lopez for a throwback watch party starting at 3:30 pm, at Game Seven Grill, located on the concourse at Chase Field. The party will feature a customized menu and fans will have the chance to get their photo taken with the 2001 World Series Championship trophy as well as win several D-backs prizes throughout the night.

It's kinda like a warmup, because the team will be wearing the same "throwback" jerseys during our own Throwback Night at Chase on Aug. 31. As well as the retro uniforms, the evening will feature the 2nd annual Alumni Game. Shortly after the D-backs vs. Giants contest, D-backs alumni including Luis Gonzalez, Matt Williams, Travis Lee, Reggie Sanders and Steve Finley will take the field to play a three-inning exhibition game. Fans can also bid on the game-worn, autographed "throwback" jerseys, starting today, online.

I'd settle for the team playing like it was 1999 tonight, rather than partying, and it's amusing to realize that Matt Davidson, the youngest member of the current roster, was just eight-years-old during our first NL West title season. Now he's playing for the team: it's kinda encouraging to realize that there is a generation, starting to reach adulthood, who will not really have known life without the Diamondbacks existing. That's what generates a broad fanbase of strong support: lifelong supporters.

A former Diamondback will be present on the other side tonight, with John McDonald playing shortstop for the Phillies tonight. Always enjoyed seeing the Prime Minister of Defense plying his trade. It's only his second start for them, since he completed the remarkable trifecta, of being traded for a player to be named later three times in a single season

  1. March 20, 2013: Traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Pittsburgh Pirates for player to be named or cash.
  2. June 10, 2013: Traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Cleveland Indians for player to be named or cash.
  3. June 27, 2013: Traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Philadelphia Phillies for player to be named or cash.

That's now four times in his career for McDonald. Be funny if the Phillies gave the Indians a player, who then turned round and passed him back to the Pirates, who sent him to Arizona as our PTBNL...
