SnakeLines, Week 21: Goldschmidt RBI

It was a case of "close but no cigar" when it came to the category of "close wins" last week. Will this round, where we project Goldie's RBI tally, be any different?

Week 20 review

Ooh. It was close. VERY close. Friday and Saturday started off as usual, but Sunday provided the first notch on the "late wins" pole, as we won that game in a sixteen-inning marathon. That meant one more late win was needed in the Cincinnati series to push the line over. Monday and Tuesday were split, each side having a clear advantage after eight innings, but Wednesday... It looked like another blow-out, as Arizona fell eight behind after four, only for the visitors to chip away, and fall one hit short, stranding the tying run in scoring position during the top of the eighth, before the Reds pulled away in the bottom half.

Today's game was also decided late, with the teams locked at one in the bottom of the eighth. We were two outs from going into a late win situation, where any Arizona victory would pull over the line. Then, the day's fourth wild pitch brought home the go-ahead run for Cincinnati, and there would be no late heroics for the visitors. The result instead kept things under, and proved quite profitable for a number of punters:

Week 20 line

Paul Goldschmidt reached 100 RBI for the season this week, with the big blow being his third grand-slam of the year against the Reds, setting a franchise record with that. He's on pace to drive in 129 runs, which would be the most by any Arizona player since Gonzo's 142 in 2001. To honor his achievement in being only the second D-back in a decade to reach 100 RBI (the other, incidentally being Adam LaRoche in 2010!), the line for the week is for you to predict how many more he will have over the six games against Philadelphia and San Diego. Here are some numbers to help you:

  • RBI in last six games: 7
  • RBI last three road games: 4
  • RBI last three home games: 2
  • Average RBI per home game: 0.69
  • Average RBI per road game: 0.92

RBI for Goldschmidt: 5

Usual rules. Over, under or "push" (if you think he'll get exactly five) in the comments, by first pitch Friday at Chase Field (6:40pm). Get it right, and get a point, except for "push" which nets you two points: I'll update the results and standings next Thursday which is another convenient off-day.
