Cody Ross Returns

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat up on the Chicago Cubs 6-2 this afternoon, making it very clear just what the Diamondbacks needed to do in order to not lose ground in the race for the NL West.

No problem. The Diamondbacks, led by Cody Ross, managed to out-slug the Red Sox to notch a 7-6 victory. J.J. Putz and Heath Bell continued to thrive in non-closing situations. Brad Ziegler came on in the ninth and provided another heart-stopping Diamondback save. It was a good night for the team all around as the bullpen pitched 3 shutout innings and the offense produced 6 hitters with 2 or more hits, including Jason Kubel. Paul Goldschmidt had a first inning home run in his 2-4 night, putting to bed recent talk of his hitting woes.

The Diamondbacks hope to build off the momentum as they send Patrick Corbin to face off against new Boston Red Sox starter, Jake Peavy.
