Braden Shipley was promoted to South Bend and in his first start had his best performance to date as a professional. This is what was imagined for the Dbacks' top draft pick. Shipley went 5 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts. The lone run allowed was a solo home run. Unfortunately Shipley took the loss as the Silver Hawks were shutout 1-0. It's interesting that he was promoted considering his numbers were not very good for Hillsboro. But closer evaluation reveals that he was getting BABIP's to death with a ridiculous .475, and his K/BB numbers were very good. The Dbacks probably have an eye on trying to get Shipley up to High A Visalia by next season if he performs well in South Bend the rest of this year.
A couple of other players were promoted from the AZL Rookie team to Missoula. Justin Williams, our 2nd round pick, and Jamie Westbrook, our 5th round pick were both promoted and played yesterday and today.
