Roster moves were the theme of the day. With David Hernandez being optioned to Reno and Eric Chavez being put on the 15-day DL Eury De La Rosa was brought back up and Matt Davidson was finally promoted to make his big league debut.

Zeke Spruill took the mound for the rubber game and promptly fell behind 4-0 on four unearned runs. The bottom half of the inning was even worse as Cody Ross dislocated his right hip running to first trying to leg out a grounder to third. As a result, Ross would leave the game on a stretcher and Matt Davidson would take the field.

Though Josh Collmeneter has been struggling of late, he came in to throw three scoreless innings, giving the make-shift Diamondbacks' offense a chance to make up the deficit. The offense, driven largely by Aaron Hill managed to close the gap to one run before Joe Thatcher and Will Harris combined to give up three more runs in the seventh.

Gerardo Parra would go on to disregard Matt Williams' stop sign in order to score a run in the eighth

Heath Bell came on in the ninth and surrendered the first career home run of Wilmer Flores' career.

The Diamondbacks went meekly in the ninth, dropping game three and the series.
