The lines was the number of Aaron Hill hit, and he did play in all seven games, though two of those were late appearances off the bench. But his pinch-hit in the eighth inning of the blow-out loss against the Braves proved crucial in the bigger scheme of things. He started off slowly, with two hits in Atlanta, but a three-hit game in the extra-inning defeat by the Mets which opened the series in New York, put Aaron right back on track. He went hitless the next night, but as Delgado broke the losing streak, Hill singled off Matt Harvey in the first, and after reaching on an error (which didn't count) and strikeout, did it again in the seventh.
That allowed him to pass the line of 6.5, and rendered yesterday's marathon, which Hill largely got to enjoy from the bench, irrelevant to the final line, as he continued to hit well, going 7-for-23 on the week, a .304 average which shows he's right back on form. Fan optimism proved successful this week, with over being selected by more than a 2:1 margin, and coming through to provide a bumper harvest. Tip of the casino hat to AzRattler for throwing themselves on to the grenade: "I would say Over... but my karma has been horrible lately, so I will go with Under to give Hill some needed hits." Your sacrifice is appreciated.

Week 14 line
Perhaps the key factor for the upcoming week will be, as we already discussed, how much stress gets put on the bullpen, and one of the most important numbers there is, how many innings will our starters pitch? There are seven more games on the schedule, all at Chase Field, beginning with three against the Rockies over the weekend. There's then three against the Dodgers, and the week (as far as SnakeLines is concerned) finished with the first of a four-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers. That will, almost certainly, mean two starts for Tyler Skaggs and Wade Miley, with everyone else getting one apiece. Here are some more numbers for innings per start:
IP | G | GS | <80 | 80-99 | 100-119 | ≥120 | Max | |||
Patrick Corbin* | 115.2 | 17 | 17 | 6.8 | 97 | 1 | 9 | 7 | 0 | 111 |
Randall Delgado | 27.0 | 5 | 4 | 6.3 | 97 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 106 |
Ian Kennedy | 96.0 | 16 | 16 | 6.0 | 102 | 0 | 6 | 10 | 0 | 116 |
Wade Miley* | 100.2 | 17 | 17 | 5.9 | 96 | 1 | 10 | 6 | 0 | 110 |
Tyler Skaggs* | 16.2 | 3 | 3 | 5.6 | 98 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 102 |
