Quotables

Most clubs are always looking to fortify the bullpen and make it better, as we will. Other than being very right-handed in our bullpen, we have some youth. We have some veterans. We have some guys who have been there before. Still haven't given up on the 25 guys we have right here.

We might be a little bit of a buyer and seller, or we may not do anything. We like the club the way it is now. A lot of our moves were made in the offseason, and that was by choice. Spend some of the available dollars in the winter to bring on some people, knowing that hopefully with no injuries we wouldn't have to do much at the deadline.

Makeup-wise, chemistry-wise, I feel very strongly about the guys we have in that clubhouse. Probably this year more so than some of my prior years here, I don't know how much I really don't want to mess with that. Over the long run, I think these guys will persevere and end up hopefully on top of this division

At about 2 a.m. Monday, the Diamondbacks' decision makers will start to gather in their Tampa hotel for what Kevin Towers likes to call the "lighting round," the final few days before the Wednesday trade deadline. Before leaving town Sunday, Towers made it clear that he does not expect major changes as the D-backs prepare for the final two months 2 1/2 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and 4 1/2 behind the Reds for the second wild card spot.

On Monday, scouts for the Diamondbacks will converge on Tampa. With the July 31 trade deadline looming and the team in town to face the Tampa Bay Rays beginning Tuesday, Diamondbacks General Manager Kevin Towers doesn’t want to have to call a scout for an opinion.

Arizona Diamondbacks’ Pat Corbin short on firepower in arms race | azcentral.com
After the Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres combined for 25 runs in the first two games of their weekend series at Chase Field, a pitching duel was probably the most unlikely scenario on Sunday.
