Diamondbacks 2, Brewers 1

Tensest win of the year? Could well be, as the Diamondbacks held on to a 2-1 lead for seven innings, to edge the Brewers in a squeaker at Chase Field tonight.

Early on, it was a comedy of errors that scored the runs. Two wild pitches got the Brewers on the board in the first, but a throwing error allowed Adam Eaton to scoot from first to third in our half, and he scored on a Paul Goldschmidt groundout. And in the second, "Cliff Pennington reaches on a fielding error by third baseman Yuniesky Betancourt. Cody Ross scores. Cliff Pennington to 2nd." Yeah, if anyone could enlighten me on details for the full recap, that'd be great. I'm covering for BattleMoses, and the available highlights don't actually include any of the runs!

That was it for scoring. The Brewers threatened on multiple occasions, most notably leaving the bases loaded in the seventh, when Will Harris got the final out to keep Corbin in line for the win (Patrick went 6.2 innings, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks, with ten strikeouts), and the eighth when Heath Bell escaped a similar jam, with a huge assist from A.J. Pollock. The ninth, remarkably, was a drama-free inning, David Hernandez retiring the Brewers in order, to pick up his second save of the year.

The Rockies look to be on the verge of knocking off Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. If they do, that would put our lead back to 2 1/2 games, and would mean we are guaranteed to go into the break in sole possession of first place. Tomorrow, Randall Delgado takes on Kyle Lohse, with the first pitch at 7:10pm Arizona time. Full recap will probably be a while, I need to lie down in a darkened room for a bit.
