Diamondbacks 5, Brewers 3

Thank the based Sharknado that baseball games are longer than a couple inning, because this one seemed like it was going to be another trip to the Shame Hole.

The Brewers attacked early, getting on the board in the 1st off a Jean Segura double and a Jonathan Lucroy home run. Carlos Gomez tacked another run in the 3rd inning to make the deficit 3-0. At that point in the game it really felt like things were going to slide out of control in a hurry.

It was especially worrisome that Wade Miley was struggling with the larger context of an exhausted, shaky bullpen that had to work a 14 inning loss last night. The Diamondbacks needed Miley to go deep into the game, no matter how many runs he served.

He settled down, though, and gave the D-backs 8 solid innings. You'd take that most days, but he really held the line until the offense could get going. Some food for thought: he gave up 7 hits through the first 3 innings, then only 1 through the next 5. He also struck out 4.

Oh, and the offense? They eventually would get it going, and it started with the perhaps unlikely hero of Martin Prado. He doubled to lead off the 5th, was followed by a Miguel Montero single, and both were brought home with Adam Eaton's triple, his first hit of the season.

The Diamondbacks tied it up in the 6th off a Jason Kubel sac-fly, and then took the lead in the bottom of the 8th. It was enabled by Jim Henderson walking the bases full, then giving up a 2 run single to Martin Prado.

Brad Ziegler was called upon to close the game, continuing the revolving door of D-backs closers. He, of course, put Rickie Weeks on base by plunking him, then induced a ground ball that slipped through. But he was able to shut the door, and the D-backs stopped their skid.
