Trevor Cahill couldn't find his release point if you paid him, which isn't very good since the Diamondbacks are paying him. His pitches left up were hit hard and hit often. Cahill gave up nine hits and a walk, including a 3-run home run by Buster Posey. By the time Cahill left with two out in the fourth inning, the Giants had amassed an 8-0 lead.

The Diamondbacks tried to make it interesting by scoring some runs in the sixth inning. The Giants used three pitchers and it took a half an hour to complete, but Arizona did push across four runs to preserve the "Still Not Shut Out!!" streak. Paul Goldschmidt was 0-for-4 but had an RBI groundout to extend his RBI streak to 18 games, tying a franchise record.

Josh Collmenter and Will Harris allowed the ninth and tenth San Francisco runs. Willie Bloomquist drove in Arizona's fifth run in the ninth inning. The rubber game of this series gets started in about 14.5 hours.
